Raymond Loewy was one of the foremost car designers in the past century. He became involved with Studebaker when his Raymond Loewy Associates (RLA) helped in the design of the 1938 Studebaker. Loewy himself was often credited with designs that actually were designed by employees of RLA such as Robert Bourke who brought about the stylish Studebaker cars of the 1950's and 60's. Loewy was the spokesperson and Bourke had the creative skills for RLA's work with Studebaker. The Champion and Commander Starlight versions were considered "Loewy coupes" but Bourke did much of the designing.
